AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE CULTURALLY COMPETENT COUNSELORS AND ADVISORS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN ADULTS INCARCERATED IN STATE FACILITIES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Eighty thousand dollars ($80,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the corrections department for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 to provide two counselors to travel to state and private prisons and corrections facilities to provide spiritual counseling, ceremonies and advice pursuant to the Native American Counseling Act to Native Americans incarcerated in state and private facilities. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
