AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMER SCHOOL WORK PROGRAM FOR AT-RISK YOUTH IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Sixty-five thousand dollars ($65,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the children, youth and families department for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 to contract for an environmental summer school work program in southern New Mexico offering at-risk youth between ten and sixteen years of age a six-week experience of intensive courses in science, mathematics and social studies, applicable to high school graduation, in a series of camp settings where students learn from hands-on work experience. Classes will be limited to no more than twelve participants and may include both adjudicated and non-adjudicated youth. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
