AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A PROGRAM TO BREAK THE GENERATIONAL CYCLE OF CRIME AND IMPRISONMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH MOTHERS IN PRISON.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($750,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of health for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of contracting for a demonstration program for children with mothers in prison that will provide case management, counseling, education, substance abuse and transportation services. The demonstration program shall provide services to approximately nine hundred children of imprisoned mothers from Bernalillo, McKinley, Otero and San Juan counties. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
