SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

The bill appropriates $200.0 to provide temporary lodging in a residential facility operated in Albuquerque, specifically for both adult and child cancer patients and their families visiting Albuquerque for treatment purposes.

Significant Issues

The Department of Health (DOH) indicates it currently contracts for the services provided for in the bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The bill appropriates $200.0 in general fund in FY00 and FY01 to the Department of Health (DOH).

The Health Policy Commission (HPC) indicates that currently funding for temporary lodging is provided in part through donations, community and corporate support programs such as the Ronald McDonald House, and through third-party insurers.

TECHNICAL ISSUES

HPC indicates the bill could specify income or some other eligibility criteria as to whom would be eligible to receive state funding for the services provided for in the bill.

DOH indicates funds could be appropriated to the University of New Mexico Hospital to provide the services contained in the bill.
