SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 208 appropriates $200.0 from the general fund to the Children, Youth and Families Department, (CYFD) for FY01 to contract for supervised youth activities programs.

Significant Issues

The bill proposes that services would be in San Juan county.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The bill appropriates $200.0 from the general fund and is recurring.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

CYFD currently administers programs for youth and the passage of this bill would have minimal impact on administering the contract. The department would issue a request for proposal (RFP) to provide these services in San Juan County.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

House Bill 208 is vague in identifying the type of "supervised youth activities" for which the bill proposes to contract. The bill should be amended to clarify whether the intent of the legislation is to provide programs for youth under juvenile justice services or to provide services for prevention programs.
