SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

SJM 19 recognizes the accomplishments of NM First with regard to health care and summarizes the responsibilities of the health care implementation team that were established at the NM First Town Hall Meeting. These responsibilities include:

• •Ensuring clear definition of issues impeding delivery of basic health services in both rural and urban settings
• •Increasing the number of NM citizens who have health insurance
• •Assisting in developing the financing aspects of a basic health care plan
• •Working with the US department of Agriculture to feed the 18% of New Mexicans identified as hungry

Significant Issues

SMJ 19 requests the legislature endorse the health care goals of the 23^rd NM first town hall and request the health care implementation team to present, prior to each regular session of the legislature, a report of recommendations and progress achieved toward implementation of its goals.
