SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
The memorial requests the Department of Health and State Department of Education examine the relationship between the absence of sex education in middle school and high school and the high teen pregnancy rate in New Mexico.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The State Department of Education indicates that in order to make direct correlations between the absence of sex education and the teen birth rate, a funded research study would have to be conducted; however, inferences can be drawn from current existing research and data.
CONFLICT/DUPLICATION/COMPANIONSHIP/RELATIONSHIP
The memorial relates to HB116 which appropriates funds to help improve sex education offerings in the state's school districts.
