A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT EL PASO TO RECONSIDER ITS DECISION TO CANCEL ITS 2001 FOOTBALL GAME WITH NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY.



WHEREAS, the university of Texas at El Paso has canceled a contract to play New Mexico state university on September 8, 2001 in Las Cruces; and

WHEREAS, the two schools have played each other since 1914, interrupted only three times, during the two world wars and in 1934; and

WHEREAS, the games typically draw a crowd of more than fifty thousand fans; and

WHEREAS, the contract called for New Mexico state university to play at El Paso in 1999, 2000 and 2003 and the university of Texas at El Paso to play in Las Cruces in 2001, 2002 and 2004;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the university of Texas at El Paso be requested to reconsider its decision to cancel its 2001 football game with New Mexico state university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the athletic director of the university of Texas at El Paso.
