AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR OUTREACH FOR INTERPRETERS FOR DEAF PERSONS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the commission for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons for expenditure in fiscal years 2002 and 2003 to contract for expanded statewide outreach efforts, including case management, sign language interpreting, counseling and vocational placement for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
