AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; REQUIRING HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULA TO BE ALIGNED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NECESSARY FOR WORK AND POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION; REQUIRING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION EXAMINATIONS TO BE ALIGNED WITH COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS AND PLACEMENT INTO COLLEGE-LEVEL COURSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. A new section of Chapter 22, Article 13 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

"[NEW MATERIAL] HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULA--GRADUATION EXAMINATIONS--ALIGNMENT.--

A. High school curricula shall be aligned with the knowledge and skills necessary for work and post-secondary education.

B. High school graduation examinations shall be aligned with state college admissions tests and placement into college-level courses.

C. The department of education shall collaborate with the commission on higher education in aligning high school graduation examinations with the tests used for college admissions and for placement into college-level courses."
