AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PRESERVE THE TRADITIONAL NEW MEXICAN AGRICULTURAL WAY OF LIFE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the economic development department for expenditure in fiscal year 2003 to contract with a nonprofit farmers' market organization comprised of at least one hundred fifty members, administratively based in Santa Fe county, for an economic development plan and its implementation, which will serve as a catalyst to create agricultural jobs in a regional economy, preserve the traditional New Mexican agricultural way of life, provide food for the poor, expand the market for state-grown agricultural products, create revenue circulation within the state, bridge the gap between urban and rural communities and leverage state funding through federal and private sources. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.
