AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO MAINTAIN TWENTY-FOUR-HOUR SERVICES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO HOSPITAL LEVEL ONE TRAUMA CENTER AND TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR SPECIALTY EDUCATION IN ANESTHESIOLOGY AND ENSURE AVAILABILITY OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCES FOR NURSING AND MEDICAL STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Two million dollars ($2,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 in the following amounts and for the following purposes:

(1) one million four hundred thousand dollars ($1,400,000) to the school of medicine specialty education programs to maintain twenty-four-hour coverage at the university of New Mexico hospital's level one trauma center and to hire five anesthesiologists to provide services and train students; and

(2) six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) to the New Mexico health sciences center to ensure availability of electronic resources to nursing and medical students.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.
