AN ACT

RELATING TO ELECTIONS; ALLOWING FOR HAND TALLYING OF BALLOTS ON APPROVED COMPUTER SYSTEMS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. Section 1-11-14 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1969, Chapter 240, Section 224, as amended) is amended to read:

"1-11-14. TALLY SHEETS AND STATEMENTS OF CANVASS--PREPARATION.--Prior to election day, the secretary of state shall cause to be printed in the tally sheets and statements of canvass, in the proper places and under the proper designations, the names of all candidates appearing on the official ballot. The secretary may approve a county's use of computer-based tally sheets if the county submits the software program to be used for tallying to the secretary at least sixty days prior to the election and the secretary determines that the program meets election standards."
