AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A PILOT PROJECT TO PRESERVE THE NAVAJO LANGUAGE USING NAVAJO ELDERS AS INSTRUCTORS IN THE MEXICAN SPRINGS CHAPTER OF THE NAVAJO NATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 for a pilot project to preserve the Navajo language using Navajo elders as instructors in the Mexican Springs chapter of the Navajo Nation. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.
