AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR SALT CEDAR AND PHREATOPHYTE MANAGEMENT TO ENHANCE WATER SUPPLIES IN THE PECOS RIVER BASIN.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five million dollars ($5,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 to support soil and water conservation districts' efforts to manage salt cedar and other phreatophytes to restore native vegetation and enhance water supplies and wildlife habitat in the Pecos river basin. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.
