AN ACT

RELATING TO HORSE RACING; REQUIRING LICENSED HORSE RACING TRACKS TO RUN FOUR NEW MEXICO-BRED HORSE RACES EACH RACE DAY; ENACTING A NEW SECTION OF THE HORSE RACING ACT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. A new section of the Horse Racing Act is enacted to read:

"[NEW MATERIAL] NEW MEXICO HORSE RACES.--Licensed horse racing tracks shall run at least four races for New Mexico-bred horses on each live day of racing. At least one of the races shall be for quarter horses and at least one shall be for thoroughbred horses. This requirement shall not apply to race days that are scheduled exclusively for allowance races or stakes races that include trial races."

Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2003.
