AN ACT

MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR NURSING EDUCATION IN NEW MEXICO.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. One million seventy-five thousand dollars ($1,075,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 in the following amounts and for the following purposes:

(1) four hundred seventy-five thousand dollars ($475,000) to expand enrollment in the college of nursing; and

(2) six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) for geographic expansion of the college of nursing through distance education, web-based enrollment and partnerships with other post-secondary educational institutions offering associate degrees in nursing.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Nine hundred nineteen thousand dollars ($919,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 in the following amounts and for the following purposes:

(1) five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) to increase admissions and support the bachelor of science in nursing program and to maintain the master of science in nursing program; and

(2) four hundred nineteen thousand dollars ($419,000) to maintain nursing faculty salaries.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.
