AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO SUPPORT HIGH SCHOOLS WITH PLANS TO IMPLEMENT RESEARCH-BASED REFORM EFFORTS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three million dollars ($3,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 to support high schools with plans to implement research- based reform efforts that focus on smaller learning communities, promote program quality in academic, career and technical education and include an evaluation component and technical support. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.
