AN ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL SERVICE TO PROVIDE A DISTRICT OFFICE AND STAFF FOR EACH LEGISLATOR.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. One million three hundred thirty thousand dollars ($1,330,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the legislative council service to provide a district office and staff for each legislator for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 as follows:

(1) six hundred thirty thousand dollars ($630,000) to be divided equally among the members of the senate; and

(2) seven hundred thousand dollars ($700,000) to be divided equally among the members of the house of representatives.

B. The New Mexico legislative council shall develop policies, procedures and limitations regarding the use of these expenditures by the legislative council service on behalf of the members. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.
