SUMMARY

 

     Synopsis of Bill

 

Senate Bill 487 appropriates $100.0 from the general fund to the State Agency on Aging for respite care services for families of persons with Alzheimer’s disease.

 

     Significant Issues

 

  1. A portion of the appropriation, $75.0, will be for funding respite care services for families of persons with Alzheimer’s disease with an emphasis on services in rural areas.

 

  1. The remaining portion, $25.0, will be for staff development for administrative and direct care staff in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and community-based facilities, including adult daycare.

 

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

 

The appropriation of $100.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.

 

POSSIBLE QUESTIONS

 

1.  What other programs exist in the State Aging on Agency for families or victims of Alzheimer’s disease?   Will any of the services be duplicated?  Do any federal programs provide funding for the services noted in this bill?
