SUMMARY

 

     Synopsis of Bill

 

House Bill 591 amends language in various statutes relating to oversize/overweight permits.  The bill amends the statutory language to recognize the transfer of the Motor Transportation Division (MTD) from the Taxation and Revenue Department (TRD) to the Department of Public Safety (DPS).  The bill also recognizes the renaming of the State Corporation Commission as the Public Regulation Commission. 

 

The bill provides that DPS may regulate the time periods during which a vehicle or load exceeding the maximum specified in statute may be operated or moved by a motor carrier on a highway.

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

 

The bill provides that the Motor Transportation Division of DPS shall draft and promulgate regulations governing the movement of oversize/overweight vehicles or loads.  The current statute provides that the regulations governing oversize/overweight movement resides within the Motor Vehicle Division of TRD.
