SUMMARY

 

     Synopsis of Bill

 

House Joint Resolution 24 proposes an amendment to the New Mexico State Constitution to provide that the membership of the judicial nominating commissions and committees represent the ethnic, gender and geographic diversity of the state.

 

     Significant Issues

 

This will aid in ensuring the judiciary of New Mexico accurately represents the diverse populations of New Mexico.  This cushions the judiciary from permitting unfairness based on prejudices. 

 

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

 

There are no known fiscal implications for the state.
