A MEMORIAL

EXPRESSING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF BERTA KINGSTON.



WHEREAS, Berta Kingston was born on August 20, 1924 in Hainsfart, Germany, and passed away on February 3, 2003 at the age of seventy-eight; and

WHEREAS, during the Holocaust in 1938, Berta's life was saved when her parents made the ultimate sacrifice by securing her a seat on a children transport to Manchester, England; and

WHEREAS, Berta was recognized for her dedication to community service when she was awarded the Carlsbad humanitarian award and was the New Mexico quality recipient of the cancer society award for her more than thirty years of service to the "reach to recover" program; and

WHEREAS, Berta was an active board member of the Carlsbad community concerts association for many years and assisted her husband in preparing and serving meals at the veterans of foreign wars post number 3277; and

WHEREAS, Berta is survived by Arthur, her husband of fifty-four years; her son, William Joseph "Bill" Kingston; four grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends who will miss her dearly;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be extended to the family and friends of Berta Kingston, a loving and devoted New Mexican; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the family and friends of Berta Kingston.
