FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR TRUANCY PREVENTION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2007 to make grant awards to public school districts for truancy prevention efforts designed to use early intervention strategies that focus on reducing unexcused school absences and keeping truants in an educational setting, in partnership with other community-based and state and local governmental agencies. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
