SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 261 appropriates from the general fund to DCA for a program that provides sym-
phonic music for public concerts in communities in northern New Mexico schools conducted by
orchestras located in Santa Fe.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
House Bill 261 appropriates $25.0 from the general fund and is recurring. Any unexpended or
unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2007 shall revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The legislation appropriates funding for performing groups in Santa Fe County. The bill also
stipulates that educational performances in schools may include performance by groups of less
than orchestra size, as well as solo instruments with accompaniment.

ALTERNATIVES
According to DCA, the legislation could be amended to appropriate the funds to the Arts division
and the organizations could apply through the established grants procedure and the New Mexico
Arts funding guidelines.
