SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 605 appropriates $100.0 from the General fund to the Public Education Department
(PED) that incurred expenses from the annual state high school basketball tournament. Expenses
include the cost of personnel, management, security, custodial, utility, and rental costs.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $100.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any
unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY 2007 shall revert to the gen-
eral fund.

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES

An appropriation in FY 2006 of $95.0 was allocated to this program.

WHAT WILL BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF NOT ENACTING THIS BILL

According to Executive Director Gary Tripp, New Mexico Activities Association, there will be
an increase in the ticket price from $8 to $10. School assessments currently range from $2,500-
5,000; a 2%-3% increase will total $50- $150 additional money charged to each school.
