SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
According to PED, this legislation would allow the New Mexico Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) to
reach citizens living in all areas of the state. There are over 20,000 objects in the MFA collec-
tion; they include paintings, drawings and sculptures. This is a digitization project that would
include photographs of objects and written discussion to enhance the viewing of the objects.
Computer technology allows pieces that are in storage to be enjoyed and all pieces chosen can be
compared with one another, side by side, without physically going from gallery to gallery.
This legislation is an educational outreach program based upon learning through the arts.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The Cultural Affairs Department would administer the program and monitor the funding.
