AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A PROGRAM THAT DEVELOPS AND ADDRESSES LIFE-MANAGEMENT SKILLS FOR INMATES OF CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. Seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($750,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the corrections department for expenditure in fiscal year 2008 to contract for a program that develops and addresses the following for inmates of correctional facilities:

                (1) life-management skills;

                (2) human development and self-esteem issues;

                (3) the concepts of commitment and collective responsibility;

                (4) problem-solving and decision-making with the goal of eliminating past difficulties;

                (5) basic money management skills with the goal of avoiding further difficulties; and

                (6) skills needed to acquire and retain employment.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2008 shall revert to the general fund.
