AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A STUDY OF POSSIBLE REVISIONS TO HIGHWAY SPEED LIMITS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of transportation for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 to undertake or contract for a study of the advisability of revising highway speed limits in New Mexico, including the option of lowering some speed limits during the night. The department of transportation shall report the results of the study to the appropriate interim legislative committee on or before October 1, 2008. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
