AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR LITERACY PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN IN RURAL AREAS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 for in-school, after-school and summer supplementary literacy programs for children in rural areas targeting high-need, underserved populations. This appropriation is contingent upon the receipt of matching funding of not less than one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) from sources other than the state of New Mexico. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
