AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO STUDY FACULTY SALARIES AT NEW MEXICO POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. Seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the higher education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 to study faculty salaries at New Mexico post-secondary educational institutions. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.

          B. The higher education department shall submit a report to the governor and the legislature prior to December 31, 2008 on full-time faculty salaries at New Mexico public post-secondary educational institutions. The report shall include:

                (1) information regarding current compensation practices and rates within New Mexico public post-secondary educational institutions for full-time faculty;

                (2) a comparison of compensation practices and rates for full-time faculty between New Mexico public post-secondary educational institutions and peer groups; and

                (3) a comparison of compensation practices and rates for full-time faculty between New Mexico public post-secondary educational institutions and full-time teachers at New Mexico public secondary schools.
