AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ENHANCE TRUANCY REDUCTION IN THE LAS CRUCES PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE REGIONAL EDUCATION INITIATIVE.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred twenty thousand dollars ($120,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 for the Las Cruces public schools, working in partnership with the local regional education initiative, to implement an enhanced truancy process, taking a countywide approach to improving attendance. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
