SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 208, Making and Appropriation for Emergency Services Training and Profession
Development in Los Lunas, appropriates $50 thousand from the general fund to DFA for the
purpose of providing training and professional development of emergency services personnel,
including law enforcement, in Los Lunas.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $50 thousand contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general
fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY09 shall revert to the
general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
According to the Department of Health, Los Lunas is served by a career (paid) fire department, a
private career EMS service, and career law enforcement services. The closest hospital facilities
are in Albuquerque. Emergency medical service agencies, both private and public, have
historically been under funded in regards to training and operational costs. DoH further noted
that HB 208 might be clarified by specifying how the appropriation would be distributed to the
various fire, law & health services in Los Lunas.
