SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 609 appropriates $32 thousand from the general fund to Tourism Department to
promote and advertise, statewide and nationally, an exhibition featuring work by an
internationally recognized American photographer known for photographing the American west
and by a female American artist associated with the southwest and particularly New Mexico
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $32 thousand contained in this bill is a non-recurring expense to the general
fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall
revert to the general fund.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
The appropriation in House Bill 609 appears to be intended to help promote the upcoming
Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams: Natural Affinities exhibition, organized by the Georgia
O’Keeffe Museum, May 23 - September 28, 2008. New Mexico Arts, a Division of the Cultural

PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS
According to the Tourism Department (TD), the agency works closely with cultural and heritage
organizations and their communities to provide quality visitor experiences without
compromising the integrity or message of negatively affecting these authentic resources and
living traditions
TD is supportive of activities and events that result in increasing the number of tourists to New
Mexico. Art continues to be a key attraction that draws out-of-state visitors to New Mexico. TD
performance measures related to increasing visitation to New Mexico should increase with this
appropriation.
