SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 429 amends the Public School Finance Act section 22-8-9 NMSA 1978 by
establishing a minimum increment of one-half hour for school districts adjusting their school day
when developing their school calendar.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
Senate Bill 429 has no fiscal impact.
SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
According to the PED, under the current system, school districts and charter schools are allowed
to make amendments to their school calendar midyear if they delay or cancel school due to
inclement weather. Senate Bill 429 would keep them in alignment with the Public School Code,
Section 22-2-8.1 and the Public School Finance Act 22-8-9. Senate Bill 429 does not clearly
address these types of amendments during the school year.
