A JOINT MEMORIAL

DECLARING JANUARY 30, 2008 AS "FFA AND 4-H DAY" AT THE LEGISLATURE.

 

     WHEREAS, FFA and 4-H have been premier youth leadership organizations in New Mexico for more than eighty years; and

     WHEREAS, FFA and 4-H sponsor chapters and clubs in rural and urban areas throughout the state; and

     WHEREAS, over ninety thousand youth between the ages of five and twenty-one years old participate in FFA and 4-H youth development programs statewide; and

     WHEREAS, FFA and 4-H youth development programs are diverse and help participants acquire important life skills, including leadership, responsible citizenship, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and communication skills, that directly contribute to the successful transition of young people into productive adults; and

     WHEREAS, FFA and 4-H participants report having greater confidence and a more positive self-identity, stating that they have greater control over events in their lives and a better ability to make decisions on their own, set goals and take responsibility for their actions, and that there are many things in which they can take pride and their lives have purpose and meaning;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that, in recognition of the contributions of FFA and 4-H to the state, January 30, 2008 be declared "FFA and 4-H Day" at the legislature; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to New Mexico state university's FFA and 4-H youth development organizations.
