A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO SUPPORT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE NORTHERN RIO GRANDE NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA.

 

     WHEREAS, the federal government has made available two hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($225,000) to develop the northern Rio Grande national heritage area; and

     WHEREAS, economic development and education will underpin the planning process; and

     WHEREAS, local and state organizations and agencies will be involved in the planning process and decisions affecting the heritage area; and

     WHEREAS, the northern Rio Grande national heritage area will include programs and activities related to preservation and conservation of the landscape, history and tri-cultural communities; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the northern Rio Grande national heritage area will be to pass on to future generations the resources they will need to become stewards of the landscape, history and cultures of Taos, Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico congressional delegation will provide New Mexico, in partnership with the national park service, the singular opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the American cultural mosaic;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico congressional delegation be requested to support the creation of the northern Rio Grande national heritage area; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico congressional delegation.
