AN ACT

RELATING TO UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION; BARRING ANY PERSON FROM CHARGING FEES TO UNEMPLOYMENT RECIPIENTS FOR USE OF ELECTRONIC BENEFIT TRANSFER CARDS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Unemployment Compensation Law is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] FEES FOR USE OF ELECTRONIC BENEFIT TRANSFER CARDS PROHIBITED.--A person shall not charge any fee to an individual who receives unemployment compensation either for use of an electronic benefit transfer card or to make a balance inquiry, as "balance inquiry" is defined in the Remote Financial Service Unit Act."

     Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
