AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO EDUCATE THE DRIVING PUBLIC ABOUT THE HAZARDS OF TEXT MESSAGING WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the traffic safety bureau of the department of transportation for expenditure in fiscal year 2010 for a campaign using billboards to educate the driving public about the traffic safety hazard caused by a person text messaging while operating a motor vehicle. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2010 shall revert to the general fund.
