49th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first special session, 2009

INTRODUCED BY

Mary Kay Papen

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

ENCOURAGING LEGISLATORS TO VOLUNTARILY REDUCE THEIR PER DIEM ALLOWANCE.

     WHEREAS, the nation and the state are in the most serious recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s; and

     WHEREAS, the estimates for state revenue continue their precipitous downward slide and the legislature has been called into special session to cut appropriations of state agencies, higher education and public schools; and

     WHEREAS, while legislative agencies are included in the budget cuts, the rate of per diem reimbursement for legislators is set in the constitution of New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, that senators and representatives voluntarily reduce their per diem reimbursement by a minimum of ten percent for the remainder of the forty-ninth legislature.
