A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 9, 2010 AS "4-H AND FFA DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, 4-H and FFA have been premier youth leadership organizations in New Mexico for more than eighty years; and

     WHEREAS, 4-H and FFA sponsor chapters and clubs in rural and urban areas throughout the state; and

     WHEREAS, more than ninety thousand youth between the ages of five and twenty-one years old participate in 4-H and FFA youth development programs statewide; and

     WHEREAS, 4-H and FFA youth development programs are diverse and help participants acquire important life skills, including leadership, responsible citizenship, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and communication skills, that directly contribute to the successful transition of young people into productive adults; and

     WHEREAS, 4-H and FFA participants report having greater confidence and a more positive self-identity, stating that they have greater control over events in their lives and a better ability to make decisions on their own, that they set goals and take responsibility for their actions, that they can take pride in many things and that their lives have purpose and meaning;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that, in recognition of the contributions of 4-H and FFA to the state, February 9, 2010 be declared "4-H and FFA Day" at the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to New Mexico state university's 4-H and FFA youth development organizations.
