AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO SUPPORT TRAINING OF NEW MEXICO NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENTS AND THEIR TEACHERS TO PREPARE FOR AND PARTICIPATE IN AN INTERNATIONAL ROBOT COMPETITION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2013 for management of a yearlong program to prepare teams of New Mexico Native American students in grades three through twelve, together with their teachers, to design, build, program and test autonomous robots and to produce an international robot competition for student teams to demonstrate their skills and knowledge as academic athletes. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2013 shall revert to the general fund.
