AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE HIGHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO GRANT LOANS TO LICENSED SOCIAL WORKERS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS FOR SERVICE IN COUNTIES DESIGNATED AS HEALTH PROFESSIONAL SHORTAGE AREAS AND HAVING A POPULATION OF LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED FORTY THOUSAND.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the higher education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2016 for allied health student loans, pursuant to the Allied Health Student Loan for Service Act, to students intending to practice as licensed social workers and psychologists in counties designated as health professional shortage areas and having a population of less than one hundred forty thousand according to the most recent federal decennial census. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2016 shall revert to the general fund.
