A MEMORIAL

HONORING WALTER CECIL "DUB" WILLIAMS, JR. AND RECOGNIZING HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, Walter Cecil "Dub" Williams, Jr., who served as a state representative for district fifty-six for fifteen years, died in Ruidoso on October 27, 2014; and

      WHEREAS, Dub was born on November 17, 1927 in Bogalusa, Louisiana; and

     WHEREAS, Dub moved to Lincoln county in 1944 and married, ranched and raised a family there; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Dub enlisted in the United States Navy for two years and then attended New Mexico state university, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and education; and

      WHEREAS, Dub was a school teacher and a coach for twenty-nine years in the Ruidoso public school system and was the founder of the Ruidoso high school scholastic banquet; and

     WHEREAS, Dub was passionate about Ruidoso football and was the broadcast announcer at the Ruidoso football stadium, calling every football game for many, many years; and

     WHEREAS, Dub had a heart for his community and his community had a heart for him, leading him to serve as chairman of the Lincoln county medical center and as chairman of the water defense association; and

     WHEREAS, Dub was elected and served in the New Mexico house of representatives from 1995 to 2009; and

     WHEREAS, Dub represented Lincoln, Chaves and Otero counties, where he was a respected advocate for his beliefs and where he was held in high regard; and

     WHEREAS, during his legislative career, Dub served on many standing and interim committees, with a keen interest in agricultural and water resource issues and public school funding issues; and

     WHEREAS, Dub was known for his warm, gentle style and his ability to defuse contentious debate; and

     WHEREAS, with his passing, the state lost a respected leader, mentor and statesman; and

     WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Kathryn Hale Williams; his brothers, Charles Sherwin Williams and Ernest Ray Williams; his sons, Neale Henry Williams and his wife, Karen, and Borde Hale Williams, and his wife, Lisa; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Walter Cecil "Dub" Williams, Jr. be honored for his many years of public service and dedication to the residents of New Mexico, his commitment to all of the students whose lives he affected and to the many people whose lives he touched; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Kathryn Hale Williams.
