A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HANSON SCOTT.

 

     WHEREAS, Hanson Scott is a native New Mexican who was born in Magdalena and raised in Reserve; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson graduated from the Air Force academy in 1961; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson distinguished himself during his thirty-one-year air force career, reaching the rank of brigadier general, serving five years on the air force staff in the pentagon, leading two air force wings, serving as vice commander of the twenty-third air force and commander of special operations command Pacific; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson returned to New Mexico after his retirement from the air force and became aviation director for the city of Albuquerque from 1993 to 1997, overseeing one hundred twenty-five million dollars ($125,000,000) in airport construction that included two new runways, new airline agreements, a new food and beverage program and Sunport boulevard construction; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson then became executive director of the office for space commercialization within the state economic development department, responsible for establishing a foundation for New Mexico in commercial space; and

     WHEREAS, in January 2003, Hanson became director of the New Mexico office of military base planning and support and remained in that position until January 31, 2015; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson addressed state-level issues in support of New Mexico's military installations; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson played a key role in saving Cannon air force base in Clovis from federal closure and was instrumental in identifying a new mission for Cannon air force base of supporting air force special operations command; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson's extensive knowledge of state and federal government and agencies contributed to his ability to claim mission accomplishment at Kirtland air force base, Cannon air force base, Holloman air force base and White Sands missile range; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson served two administrations and two governors and is known for his integrity, professionalism, dedication and ability to get things done; and

     WHEREAS, Hanson's accomplishments have been recognized by the state military base planning commission;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the accomplishments of Hanson Scott be recognized; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Hanson Scott, the commanders of Kirtland air force base, Cannon air force base, Holloman air force base and White Sands missile range, the Kirtland partnership committee, the Clovis committee of fifty, the Alamogordo committee of fifty, the Las Cruces chamber of commerce military affairs committee, the adjutant general of New Mexico and the secretary of economic development.
