A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NEW MEXICO BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION.

 

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico parent teacher association, also known as New Mexico PTA, is a branch of the national parent teacher association; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico PTA will celebrate its one hundredth anniversary on May 7, 2015; and

     WHEREAS, the national parent teacher association began in 1897, fifteen years before New Mexico became a state; and

     WHEREAS, the first meeting of the New Mexico PTA was held in Albuquerque; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the New Mexico PTA is to initiate, support, enrich and advocate for the critical role of adult involvement in the education and life experiences of children throughout the state; and

     WHEREAS, the vision of the New Mexico PTA is to have its members network together for every child's potential; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico PTA acknowledges the potential of every New Mexican by valuing individual contributions and recognizing that there is a shared responsibility to align all leadership efforts; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico PTA provides programs and opportunities to empower and enhance family engagement and to strengthen school, family and community partnerships; and 

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico PTA recognizes the importance of meaningful and consistent communication between home and school; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico PTA members are committed to empowering families to be voices for every child to ensure that children's health, well-being and quality education needs are met;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico parent teacher association be recognized for its dedication and commitment to the families and students of New Mexico for the past one hundred years; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the New Mexico parent teacher association.
