A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THAT THE SENATE RECOGNIZE ROBORAVE INTERNATIONAL AS AN OFFICIAL ROBOTICS EDUCATION AND COMPETITION PROGRAM FOR NEW MEXICO STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

 

     WHEREAS, RoboRAVE international is an initiative designed to make robotics accessible to all students; and

     WHEREAS, a New Mexican teacher by the name of Smokey Trujillo coined the acronym RAVE, for Robotics Are Very Educational; and

     WHEREAS, in December 2001, RoboRAVE international began to hold competitions, which have continued uninterrupted for nearly fourteen years; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico students in grades three through twelve have been eligible to participate and learn science, technology, engineering and mathematics through direct application of content and process with robotics; and

     WHEREAS, numerous communities throughout the state have now implemented robotics as a curriculum for students within their daily school programs; and

     WHEREAS, RoboRAVE international draws students from around the world to compete in New Mexico annually with the state's students; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico students are invited to participate in global RoboRAVE international programs within other countries throughout the year; and

     WHEREAS, robotics is a gateway for students interested in developing skills in engineering design, computer programming, teamwork, project documentation, international relations and economics; and

     WHEREAS, the annual RoboRAVE international competition is held in Albuquerque every May and is open to all New Mexico students; and

     WHEREAS, Albuquerque is known each year during the annual event as "Roboquerque - where the world comes to play with robots";

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that RoboRAVE international be recognized as an official robotics education and competition program for New Mexico students and teachers; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the public education department.
