A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR TO DECLARE JUNE 24, 2016 "ROTARY CLUB OF ALBUQUERQUE DAY" IN NEW MEXICO.

     WHEREAS, the rotary club of Albuquerque was founded on June 24, 1916 in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the rotary club of Albuquerque was the two- hundred-forty-second club chartered by rotary international out of now over thirty-three thousand clubs in more than two hundred countries; and

     WHEREAS, the rotary club of Albuquerque has been a consistent leader in service in the Albuquerque community for the past century; and

     WHEREAS, rotarians have been key community leaders and public servants in New Mexico for one hundred years; and

     WHEREAS, the rotary club of Albuquerque has made numerous lasting contributions to New Mexico, including: spearheading an effort to pave part of Central avenue in Albuquerque; leading the formation of what is now the New Mexico philharmonic; co-sponsoring the grand opening of the New Mexico natural history museum in 1986; creating the Children's Fantasy garden and the Seed festival at the Albuquerque BioPark; and raising funds for new facilities at the Explora museum; and

     WHEREAS, this year, the rotary club of Albuquerque celebrates its centennial anniversary, marking one hundred years of service above self in New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the governor of New Mexico be requested to declare June 24, 2016 "Rotary Club of Albuquerque Day" in New Mexico in honor of its service, leadership and contributions to the state; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and to the members of the rotary club of Albuquerque.
