A MEMORIAL

REMEMBERING AND HONORING AMBROSE F. DURAN, JR.

 

     WHEREAS, Ambrose F. Duran, Jr., was a dignified and true gentleman with many delightful layers and a colorful spirit; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose was born on November 16, 1925 in the very house that he proudly called home his entire life, located in historic downtown Santa Fe; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose always approached life with vigor; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose first demonstrated the ultimate fortitude when he was called upon in 1944 to join the United States army, where he eventually served with great dignity in the sixty-sixth division, field artillery, in France and Germany during World War II; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose returned home to Santa Fe after the war to graduate from St. Michael's high school and then exhibited an unrivaled work ethic and continued to work nearly sixty more years of his life; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose was a familiar face around the state capitol, having worked both in the house of representatives and, most recently, the senate, where he got so much pleasure working and where he will always be remembered and loved by many friends; and

      WHEREAS, Ambrose was an avid fan of football, baseball and golf; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose never missed a Dallas cowboys or New York yankees game, and there were few in his circle who were as skilled as Ambrose at playing poker; and

      WHEREAS, Ambrose lived for, laughed with and loved his family more than anything in life; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose's family was his pride and joy, including his beloved Sarah, his best friend and wife of sixty-eight years, and his six children: his daughter, Linda, and her husband, Larry; his son, Jerry; his daughter, Dolores; his son, Mark, and his wife, Linda; his daughter, Adela; and his youngest daughter, Patricia, who passed away three years ago and is now joined in heaven by her father; and

      WHEREAS, Ambrose also cherished his grandchildren: Larry and his wife, Linda; Brian and his wife, Johanna; Kellie and her husband, Rob; Jerome, who passed away in 1996; Joseph; Jared; and Ana-Adela; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Gregory, Sophia and Robbie Jerome; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose had a full and accomplished life on this earth, which came to an end when he passed away peacefully on January 12, 2016, surrounded by his loving family; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose's family will forever remember and cherish his deep and endless love for them, his inordinate strength, incredible stamina and his constant loyalty to them; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose will also be remembered for his elegance, his terrific sense of humor and his charming spirit and for bringing so much joy and enriching the lives of his friends and acquaintances; and

     WHEREAS, Ambrose surely is watching over at this moment, smiling with much gratification that he is being honored, remembered and appreciated here today with this memorial;

      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the accomplishments of Ambrose F. Duran, Jr., be recognized and remembered and that he be honored for his life of distinction; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the family of Ambrose F. Duran, Jr.
