AN ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; REQUIRING COUNTIES TO PROVIDE FACILITIES FOR PUBLIC DEFENDER OPERATIONS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Public Defender Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] PUBLIC DEFENDER FACILITIES--MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP.--Each board of county commissioners shall provide adequate facilities for the operations of the public defender, which are separate from district attorney facilities, and shall provide necessary utilities and maintenance service for the operation and upkeep of public defender facilities."

     SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2017.
